Pleasure island

An article appeared in the Bangkok Post in March, 2000, featuring details of what to do on Koh Samui. The following is an excerpt from the article commenting on Tamarind Springs tropical spa.

"Daytime diversions.
Beach massage has always been part of life in Samui, but now the island is taking advantage of demand for a more systematic, full-service spa industry Take Tamarind Springs. Located in a coconut grove at a foothill on Lamai beach, this 18-month old spa village is an enclave of natural peace and beauty that offers a high-quality service for discerning customers. The setting is breathtaking: An open sala on a green slope serves as a massage hall, while a herbal - sauna room is discretely hidden behind two gigantic rocks.

'We're not doctors, we just want people to feel relaxed,' says manager Shelley Poplak. So forget tai chi or yoga and just get pampered. The prices are 450 baht/hour for traditional Thai massage, 450 for herbal steam and 500/hour for a relaxing oil massage."
