Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a specialized massage technique
developed in the 1932's by the Danish practitioner Dr. Emil Vodder and is
now widely recognized and practiced in America and Europe.
The basic course involves extensive hands-on work which uses light,
rhythmical circular and pumping movements to gently move the skin over the
underlying tissues. The tiny muscles of the lymphatic system and the
lymph- angions are stimulated which aids the removal of waste and excess
fluid from tissues. The technique is pain free and extremely relaxing.
Through the pumping and stretching movement effect on the lymph
vessels, this special Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage based on Dr.
Vodder method stimulates the contraction of lymph vessels, helping lymph
fluid to move. Scientific studies have proven that the immune system is
supported and even boosted as a result of receiving regular MLD
treatments. A sluggish lymphatic system increases the chance of chronic
illness and disease. Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage is the most
therapeutic technique used in the successful treatment, pain free and
extremely relaxing.
The theory includes history of MLD, anatomy, lymph vessel system,
connective tissue, additional lymph nodes, MLD Movements.
Manual Lymphatic drainage massage is used primarily to promote the
optimal functioning of the superficial lymph capillaries, vessels, nodes
and ducts that lead to the blood circulatory system.
Manual Lymphatic drainage massage is effective in the treatment of
acute and chronic edema (e.g. lymphedema, edemas following strokes and
local edemas of traumatic origin such as dislocations, tears and
fractures), neuromuscular disorders and facial dysfunction, reflex
sympathetic dystrophy, sclerodermas, burns, scar therapy, acne, local
chronic inflammations in the respiratory tract (including sinusitis and
allergies) migraine and digestive tract disorder. Used as pre-and
post-operative procedure, relaxation, reduces pain and appears to enhance
the activity of the body's immune system.

Course Objective
Upon completion of Basic Manual Lymphatic Drainage Course,
students will be able to demonstrate comprehension of the following
topics:
- understanding basic anatomy and
physiology of the lymphatic system
- demonstrate and understanding of the
indication of successful application of Manual Lymphatic Drainage
- understanding of Contraindications and
precautions for the use of MLD
- perform techniques consistent with
proper MLD Dr. Vodder method and memorize the sequences for each
body areas of the intact lymphatic system
- demonstrate the ability to customize
treatment strategies for various pathologies where is MLD is
indicated

3 DAYS BASIC MANUAL LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE for FACE &
NECK
One of the best kept secrets on the health and beauty scene MLD's
intensely relaxing effect masks the strength of the treatment itself. I
have been quoted time and again for saying that an MLD facial is like a
facelift without surgery and so it is. As the stimulated lymph vessels go
to work clearing the loose connective tissue of accumulated excess cells
and debris, the skin not only looks clearer and cleaner - it actually is
clearer and cleaner.
A 3 day introductory class in MLD which teaches basic anatomy and
physiology of the lymph vessel system along with the effects,
contra-indications and precautions of MLD. The practical sessions focus on
treatment of the neck and face enabling the esthetician to get a "feel"
for MLD. This treatment is easily incorporated into the repertoire of
basic skin care and will enhance the natural cleansing mechanisms of the
skin.
Method:
Each day is divided into theoretical lectures, practical demonstrations
and practice sessions.
7 DAYS BASIC INTENSIVES MANUAL LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE
COURSE
An intensive 7 days course involving much hands-on work. The basic
strokes are taught and treatment of each body part. The theory covers
anatomy and physiology of the lymph system, connective tissue, effects of
MLD on the nervous and immune systems as well as effects on drainage and
cleansing of congested tissue. The various causes of tissue congestion are
described in relation to the types of clients the esthetician will be
working with. The objective of this course is to learn Manual Lymph
Drainage techniques for the full body, for use within the esthetic
framework.
Method:
Each of the seven days is divided into theoretical lectures, practical
demonstration and practice sessions. -with an exam theoretical and
practical on the final day.
3-DAYS: MANUAL LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE REFRESHER COURSE:
3-day review/refresher courses are held at least twice yearly in Koh
Samui for qualified therapists. They can be used to re-certify therapists
at Basic level.
